Day 40.
At work this morning I dismantled an accordion so Stefano could polish it. While he did that I changed the bellow gasket tape to improve compression. When putting it back together we had to make several adjustments, which included changing numerous screws, adjusting the bellow strap, changing the angle of some bass buttons and remaking a pin hole.
Lunch was a tomato and pepper salad, which I followed with an hour of accordion practice. Just before returning to work, Claudio and I went to car wash, which was good fun! Sadly, we weren't allowed to be in the car at the time. After that we dropped the car off at a car electronics garage, across the road from workshop, to get a speaker and a door lock fixed, before we walked to work.
Claudio & I spent the afternoon reassembling the accordion and solving a newly discovered problem. The grill cover on said accordion is made solely of celluloid (rather than celluloid reinforced with metal) so it has shrunk & deformed over the years. Thus, it doesn't fit properly when attached. Claudio's plan was to drill a hole into the accordion body, into which we would put a metal rod and a small metal plate to push up against the inside of the grill cover, so as to prevent it sagging further. We managed to achieve this but we had to be very careful not to drill through any crucial parts or interfere wight eh register system. Once we'd done it I tested the accordion to make sure its day of overhaul hadn't created any new problems. We left to go home at 19:30.
Once at home I made scrambled eggs & fried mushrooms on toast for tea, before going next door to watch the Manchester United game and eat ice cream.
And so, to bed.
Salve x
