So much food... again!

Day 38.

I managed to lie in until 10 today, although I was awake for much of it. After showering I played some accordion, but I deliberately didn't have any breakfast as I knew a big lunch lay ahead.
At 12ish I walked with the Beltramis to Stradella, where Simone, Claudio & I grabbed a quick drink in a café before joining the others at the restaurant inside Hotel Italia, where I've eaten twice before. The five of us were joined by Gianluca & Giulia (them of pizza oven fame), Ivana's sister, brother-in-law & their son (Matteo), Ivana's parents and Tino, who I think is the father of Ivana's brother-in-law, Umberto. The occasion was a joint birthday celebration for Giulia, Claudio and Umberto. The normal antipasti were laid on (salami, prosciutto, pancetta, chicken salad, sweet roasted onions) before a first course of piselli con i fagioli (mini gnocchi with beans and tomato), ravioli alla carne (meat ravioli) and tortelli di magro (tortelli filled with cheese and vegetables). Next was the meat course - I had controfiletto alla griglia (grilled sirloin steak), which was lovely. The meal was finished off with a specially-made birthday fruit tart. Ivana, Simone, Matteo & I went for ice cream afterwards, too! The guys in the gelateria asked after my parents, which was unexpected but nice!
After walking home, Matteo & I watched the Chelsea game, before I went back to my flat to speak to Stephanie on Skype - we were trying to organise a hotel in Genova on the journey back to England. Claudio & Stefano, who had arrived for the evening, interrupted several times to get things from my kitchen!
At 20:30 I returned next door, where Claudio, Stefano, Matteo & I ate takeaway pizza before Kleidi's father arrived and we all watched the Milan vs. Inter match because Simone, Erica and Ivana had gone out. Milan won, which was excellent! We enjoyed a bit of ice cream, too.
Time for bed now as it's back to work tomorrow morning.

Ci vediamo domani x
