Day 34.
Today I got to the workshop just after 9am and started by waxing yesterday's reeds in place. One of the new reeds was too long for its slot so we had to cut some wood away from the reed block. Once this waxing was done I moved onto pinning three sets of reeds in place, before applying valves to those reeds. I spent a little while playing a full-size, classic button accordion that was in for tuning. It belongs to Max Pizzianti, the accordionist for the famous Italian composer Paolo Conte. It's a very handsome Bugari, but I didn't like it to play.
At lunch time Claudio and I got home just in time to escape the start of torrential rain, thunder and lighting, which stayed almost all afternoon. I made scrambled eggs for lunch, which made a nice change.
After lunch I carried on attaching the valves to the reeds, before Erica turned up. We went to the supermarket to buy ingredients for cheesecake, as well as the Italian version of Boots/Superdrug and then the chemist.
When we returned to the shop I stuck on the final few reeds before taking to Claudio until close.
For dinner I made spaghetti with tuna & tomato sauce.
At 9ish I went next door to watch a bit of the football while waiting for Stefano and Erica. A large group of us were going to Pavia for a walk and drinks. Ten of us went and another 4 joined us in Pavia. The place was heaving - Wednesday night is obviously when it all happens in Pavia! We walked around the town for a bit before going to a bar, where we were turned away because they didn't have a table for 14! So, we walked on further and eventually stopped at another bar - Caffè Dublino (Irish themed, as you might have guessed!) - where we sat at a long table, with drinks, and engaged ourselves in lots of conversation and laughter. We left at half past midnight and made our way back to the cars. I was home and in bed by 2am. Thankfully there's no work tomorrow!
Ciao x
